$1 Million In Housing Grants And Subsidies Distributed

Over $1 million in Housing Grants and Subsidies were distributed to 100 families on Tuesday.

The families received Home Improvement Grants and Housing Subsidies from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, through the Housing Programme Facilitation and Implementation Unit.

Those receiving Housing Grants and Subsidies came from Arouca/Maloney, Lopinot/Bon Air West, D’ Abadie/O’Meara, La Horquetta/Talparo, and El Dorado.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Camille Robinson-Regis, said by September 2025, the Ministry’s goal is to disburse subsidies to over 700 families comprising 492 Home Improvement Subsidies, and 211 Home Construction Subsidies.

She said this will be done at a cost of $20.39 million.

“Today we celebrate 59 Grant recipients with total disbursements amounting to $442,500. It was a few week ago, on October 1st, the Ministry held a cheque distribution in Malabar and 75 families received their Grant agreements and cheques. Today’s beneficiaries, you, the beneficiaries, reflect the diversity and the strength of our nation.”

Member of Parliament for Lopinot/Bon Air West, Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, said while the beneficiaries present received Grants to improve their living situation, he urged them to do the work to improve their family life as well.

“It may look better after getting a Home Improvement Subsidy or a Home Construction Subsidy, but whose responsibility it is to build a true home, whose responsibility it is. Unfortunately the Government doesn’t have a Grant for us to build stronger families. It is your responsibility.”

Member of Parliament for D’ Abadie/O’Meara, Minister in the Ministry of Education, Lisa Morris-Julian said the act of improving a home is also an act of strengthening a community.

“As the representative for D’Abadie/O’Meara constituency, one that shares a long history and close ties with Arouca/Maloney and Lopinot/Bon Air, given the Electoral boundaries that connect us, I’m reminded of the vital importance of community togetherness for our neighborhoods to try as a happy and a healthy space we must embrace the spirit of being our brother’s keeper.”

Fifty nine Home Improvement Grants (HIG) valued at $442,500, and 30 Housing Subsidies comprising 23 Home Improvement Subsidies (HIS) and seven Home Construction Subsidies (HCS) worth $635,000 were distributed on Tuesday.
