Over $14 million worth of marijuana was seized and three men arrested on Tuesday after a fishing vessel was intercepted in the Gulf of Paria.
Police reports indicate that around 3:30am on June 6th, a Customs and Excise vessel on patrol in the Gulf of Paria observed a fishing vessel with three men on board who were acting in a suspicious manner.
The fishing vessel was detained and the three men and the vessel were escorted to Hart’s Cut Bay, Chaguaramas.
Officers of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) conducted an extensive search of the vessel and found 295 packages containing marijuana. The illegal narcotics weighed 158.54 kilogrammes with a street value of $14,251,542.
One Venezuelan and two men from Claxton Bay were taken into police custody.
