$150 Million For Flooding Issues

Cabinet has taken a decision to release $150 million to deal with the impact of recent floods.

A communique from the Office of the Prime Minister today, Thursday, said after discussions with the Minister of Finance, the decision was taken to allocate an immediate $40 million to the National Flood Relief Programme.

The OPM said these funds are to augment existing budgetary allocations in relevant Ministries to provide sustenance and comfort for those directly distressed by the recent weather emergency.

A further $100 million has been allocated for urgent landslide and road reinstatement works nationwide, and $10 million will also be made available to assist members of the farming community that were adversely affected.
