It has been 30 years since the first commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender based Violence and yet we still experience elevated cases of abuse against women and girls here in Trinidad and Tobago and abroad.
This, from Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy. In commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the Minister encouraged the population to join with the United Nations and the global community to “Orange The World” and end violence against women now.
One of the goals of the campaign is to acknowledge women’s role in preventing and ending violence against women and girls. The 16 Days of Activism starts today and ends on December 10th, which is International Human Rights Day.
The UN is encouraging everyone to wear orange today, November 25th, to raise awareness and show support through meaningful actions, even if it’s starting a conversation on the subject.
