Eighteen individuals were arrested and 10 firearms seized during State of Emergency operations in the Northern Division over the past 24 hours.
This, according to Assistant Commissioner of Police for the North West District, Richard Smith, during a Police Media Briefing on Friday.
“Officers of the Northern Division North, under the supervision of Senior Superintendent Maynard Wilson, have intensified their crime-fighting efforts, executing a series of intelligence-led operations over the past 24 hours. These strategic initiatives, which targeted known offenders, led to the seizure of multiple firearms, ammunition, narcotics, as well as the arrest of 18 persons. That is in the Northern Division alone.”
ACP Smith said the interception of a vehicle in the Cumuto area led to the seizure of a high-powered weapon and a number of other firearms and ammunition. The occupant of the vehicle was arrested in connection with the discovery.
“Upon searching that vehicle, they discovered one AR-15 rifle, a revolver, two shotguns, and 20 rounds of .38 ammunition. A subsequent search of this suspect’s home at Chaguanas was conducted under the State of Emergency Regulations and this uncovered six revolvers and 31 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 41 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 46 rounds of .38 ammunition, and four rounds of .45 ammunition.”
Officers also seized 97 grammes of cannabis, leading to the arrest of a male suspect during the search of a home on Blanchisseuse Road.
