56 Tobago Families Receive Housing Subsidies

From its inception to now, 349 home improvement and home construction subsidies have been distributed to families across Tobago.

On Tuesday, 56 more families from Bon Accord to Delaford received the necessary funding from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to finance the necessary upgrades to their homes.

Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, gave testament to the effectiveness of the programme in uplifting the lives of each family.

“In Tobago East, I’ve witnessed firsthand how these housing subsidies have transformed lives. Homes, once uninhabitable, are now sanctuaries. Families have regained a sense of security and pride. Local tradesmen and small contractors have found meaningful work. This is how we build a resilient local economy, a safer society, and a more empowered people.”

According to Minister of Housing and Urban Development Adrian Leonce, the Home Improvement and Home Construction Programmes have generated approximately 580 short-term jobs. He said with the expected continuation of these programmes in fiscal 2025/2026, an additional 300 jobs will be created.

“These subsidies breathe new life into current building structures, while construction subsidies provide families with new structures to call home. These subsidies are therefore transformational. Don’t just see 20,000 or 50,000 for the physical benefits, but I want you to see the actual value of life that is being invested within the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”

The Minister said in the next fiscal year, one thousand more families in Trinidad and Tobago will benefit from these subsidies.
