This year’s Chutney Soca Monarch saw a record number of applicants – the largest in over six years.
A release from Southex Event Management Company, the organisation in charge of the event, revealed that close to 80 persons registered new songs for the competition with more than 10% of the registrants hailing from the USA and Canada.
Twenty five songs will be selected for the Semi Finals which takes place on January 27th, but only 10 songs will make it to the Finals which is carded for February 4th.
Southex is hoping to offer close to $1 million in prize money with a first prize of $500,000, second prize of $100,000, and third prize of $75,000.
The event will feature the top entertainers from the Caribbean in a special feature ‘Legends and Icons’ where six artistes from the region will be honoured.
