As the world observes International Women’s Day, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is celebrating the invaluable contributions of women across all sectors, particularly in law enforcement.
This year marks a significant milestone—70 years since the first female officers joined the TTPS.
In his statement on International Women’s Day, Acting Commissioner of Police Junior Benjamin highlighted their journey as one of resilience and excellence, breaking barriers and paving the way for greater inclusivity within policing.
With many women advancing to leadership roles, including the appointment of a female Commissioner of Police—one of only four in the Caribbean—he noted that the TTPS is now led by two female Deputy Commissioners, reflecting the strength and capability of women in policing.
The Acting Police Commissioner reaffirmed the TTPS’ commitment to supporting women through initiatives such as the Gender-Based Violence Unit, which addresses critical issues like intimate partner violence and child custody. Honouring the contributions of women, he called for continued empowerment to foster a more equitable society for all.
