The Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) has officially launched its Tobago Maxi Taxi Concessionaire service, which operates between Charlotteville and L’anse Fourmi.
The service, designed to improve the reliability of public transportation, has been running for just over two months.
Speaking at a soft launch ceremony at the Parlautiver Community Centre on Tuesday, the Chairman of the PTSC, Dr. Brian James, said public transportation in North-east Tobago has improved. He noted that since January 13th, 2025, PTSC’s scheduled services have been operating with both PTSC and private concessionaires.
“Private concessionaire companies were engaged each responsible for designated routes. This strategic partnership ensured that residents and commuters along those routes experienced minimal disruption to their daily travel while benefiting from a structured and reliable transport network.”
THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine shared some statistics showing the success of the new service.
“Today when we look at the numbers, we are told that PTSC alone the Charlotteville route and L’anse Fourmi route transported over 30,000 passengers and the concessionaires a little over 9,000 passengers, it says to me that the service is being well utilised, and that the service is actually needed.”
Meanwhile, Ayanna Webster-Roy praised the project as a result of collaboration. She explained that both she and Chief Secretary Augustine had been advocating for better public transportation in Tobago East.
“Attending the same high school Bishop’s and travelling on bus together so you know whenever our constituents complain we could empathise, we can identify with the problem because it is a journey that we, too, shared so I said you met with them in May. I say since before I jamming PTSC because every time I get a phone call from Ms. Chance, or Ms. Williams, Mr. Paul used to frighten to pick up his phone because I am like, ‘Mr. Paul I getting complaints again.’ So today I am really happy to be here.”
The PTSC Chairman also mentioned that the Corporation has over forty projects planned to improve its services across Trinidad and Tobago.
