20 Homeless After Early Morning Fire In East Port Of Spain

Over 20 people are now homeless after a fire destroyed or damaged several houses on Quarry Street, East Port of Spain.

The Member of Parliament for the area, Stuart Young, visited the victims this morning and said the blaze seemed to have started when a type of firework landed on one of the houses during New Year’s Day celebrations.

Mr. Young thanked Councillors Clint Baptiste and June Durham, Chairman Chinua Alleyne, Ms. Sharon Cedeno, the Fire Service, T&TEC, and all members of the community for assisting those affected by this disaster.

He said, “This incident highlights how the irresponsible actions of a few can, in a split second, negatively affect the lives of many innocents. As we go into 2022 I pray and hope that we will be our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers and be more thoughtful in our actions and inactions.”
