Residents of Harmony Hall in Marabella will now benefit from their newly constructed Community Centre.
This $14 million investment is aimed at bringing members of the community closer together in an effort to strengthen their community.
Speaking at the opening, Minister of Rural Development and Local Government Faris Al-Rawi highlighted that many individuals in society still lack access to essential services that could empower them to improve their lives.
“How do you level that up? You build a Community Centre, you have online classes, you bring volunteers by the excellence of this community council right here from president come down, you get to bring wonderful teachers and elders to teach respect and to provide education to the most vulnerable children in a beautiful place.”
According to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Digital Transformation, Cory Belfon, the MDT has successfully located many of their access centres in Ministry of Sport and Community Development’s community facilities. He noted that the backbone of this transformation is reliable, inclusive access to information and community technology broadband.
“Their purpose is to bring digital technology to the people. Connectivity is not a luxury; it is a necessity. It is for this reason we are targeting the opening of access centres in our more ICT-underserved communities.”
President of the Harmony Hall Community Council, Natalie John, said this state-of-the-art venue will meet the needs of their growing community. She also extended her gratitude to all the past and present positive contributors to the community.
“Let us reach out, let us connect compassionately with each other, and let us build a profound legacy for our upcoming younger ones. In so doing we will truly live up to the name of Harmony Hall, where our community will be a great one.”
Eight members of the community were also presented with individual awards for their contribution to community work, sport, religion, and education.
