Addressing issues that affect women and children, the Chairman of the People’s National Movement, Stuart Young, focused on youth and education as he took on the matters influenced by gender.
Prime Minister Young highlighted several key issues from the document as he addressed the party’s Women’s Forum in St. James on Wednesday.
“We reform the Food and Disability Grant system. This will better your lives. This will give you the access to be able to help your families. And when someone in your family gets a temporary job, it does not mean that the family is going to lose access to the Food Card or the Disability Grant.”
The Prime Minister added that the number of food support cards will be doubled and they will be distributed in an equitable manner.
“We are going to be working on something called EduFlix that will be free for the children across the nation for all of the classes. Where you could log on, they can see in an attractive manner to them lessons being taught in ways that they will understand better.”
Staying on the education topic, Prime Minister Young said the next administration will introduce early mental health assessments for children.
“You have seen the success of the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service. As part of our manifesto plans, we are expanding those programmes to ensure that youth are not left behind. We are revitalising, as you’ve heard, time and time again from a platform, a PNM platform, our youth programmes, our youth camps, our MiLAT, our CCC.”
The political party is preparing for the April 28th polls, which will see more than 1,100,000 people eligible to vote in forty-one constituencies.
