No Price Gouging At Supermarkets

There is no price gouging among members of the Supermarket Association in Trinidad and Tobago.

This, according to President of that organisation, Rajiv Diptee. Mr. Diptee noted that the majority of his members try to maintain lower costs for many goods on the shelves but are challenged by continued increases of basic food items on the international market. He explained that the increases are not native to this country.

Mr. Diptee noted that import substitution is needed to help reduce food prices. He emphasised said that encouraging an enabling environment and preventing praedial larceny and other crimes is a major factor.

Mr. Diptee said that members of his Association have expressed interest in branching out into agriculture.
