Health care workers under the Tobago Regional Health Authority have until Monday January 17th to share their vaccination status with management.
This announcement came via a memo sent to all Heads of Department dated January 7th, 2022.
The letter signed by newly-appointed General Manager of Human Resources, Michelle Garcia, explained that in accordance with the vaccination mandate outlined by the Prime Minister, this decision was taken.
Members of staff within the TRHA are being asked to provide a copy of their vaccination card to heads of department. However, earlier this week, Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly Farley Augustine reiterated his administration’s stance on the policy, noting that the THA will make a decision regarding the workers hired by the Assembly. He informed that an assessment was done and a preliminary report was presented by the Chief Administrator. He explained that the final report was expected to be received this week.
Meanwhile, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association, Idi Stuart, is urging health care workers to be cautious in considering the request made by the TRHA management. He stressed there is no law in place. Mr. Stuart further expressed that a vaccination policy would put a further strain on the health system throughout the country.
