Four men have been committed to stand trial for the murder of a six year old girl.

The accused were charged between December 18th, 2019, and June 7th, 2020 with murder, attempted murder, and setting a dwelling house on fire with persons therein.

According to a statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, 34 year old Akil Elder, 33 year old Ako John, 30 year old Akeido Edwards, and 27 year old Kashaun Boyce appeared virtually before Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earle-Caddle on January 18th 2022 during the Preliminary Inquiry relative to the death of six year old Paris Griffith, the attempted murder of her mother, and arson.

The alleged incidents are said to have taken place on August 20th, 2016 at a house located at Straker Village in Laventille.

Reports are that a woman was at home with her daughter in their wooden structure when she realised the house was engulfed in flames. The woman escaped but was unable to secure her daughter. Residents were also unsuccessful in their attempts to rescue the child.

Members of the Cold Case Unit pursued the investigation in 2018. It resulted in four suspects being charged for the offences based on instructions received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard.
