A new record of Positive COVID-19 infections in Trinidad and Tobago, as 1,259 new Positive cases have been reported by the Ministry of Health.
The results were from samples taken between January 13th and January 20th.
The total number of active Positive cases is 18,034.
The Health Ministry said 463 persons are being treated at hospital for the virus.
And a little boy is among 22 COVID-related deaths reported in the past 24 hours.
The Ministry of Health lists the deceased persons as five elderly males, seven elderly females, three middle-aged males, five middle aged females, one young adult female, and one male infant.
Their deaths take the COVID-related death toll to 3,278.
Meanwhile, 28 additional cases of the COVID-19 Omicron Variant of Concern have been confirmed, bringing the total number of confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in Trinidad and Tobago to 56.
Eighteen of the cases had no history of recent travel and no known contact with recent travellers. Two of the cases had recent travel history or contact with a recent traveller, while eight remain under epidemiologic investigation. Each of the patients has been isolated. Contacts of the Positive Omicron COVID-19 cases have been quarantined.
The presence of the Omicron variant was confirmed via gene sequencing at the laboratory of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of the West Indies.
