Soca music has, once again, appeared on an international stage as a Soca Freestyle featuring six of our local artistes premiered on the American entertainment channel, Black Entertainment Network or BET.
The freestyle features Sekon Sta, Nessa Preppy, Preedy, Melly Rose, Mical Teja, and Erphaan Alves. Soca star Melly Rose says she contacted a friend who works at BET and pitched them the idea to feature some of our local stars on the network. She worked alongside Travis Harris on the project.
The 8 minute and 30 seconds clip opens with music producer Stadic welcoming viewers to Trinidad and Tobago. The artistes then appear one by one and sing over a Soca riddim played by DJ Ana.
Melly Rose hopes the video can pique the interest of international viewers to learn more about our culture. She teased that a segment featuring Kees, Allison Hinds, and Kevin Lyttle discussing Soca origins is in the works. The video premiered on BET on Wednesday and is currently on their social media pages, including YouTube.
