No ORTT Awarded For 2021

There was no recipient for the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (ORTT) for 2021. The revelation came at the 2021 National Awards Ceremony, which took place at President’s House this evening.

The Chaconia Medal Gold was the highest award given on Wednesday evening.

Fiver persons received the award in various spheres: Beverly King, a Peer Educator, in the Spheres of Community Work, and Master Trainer – Health Education, businessman Dale Mc Leod, Economist and Advisor Jerry Hospedales in the Sphere of Economic Development, Leadership Development Coach and Motivational Speaker Attorney Sharon Christopher, and Professor Emeritus of Chemical Engineering, Winston Mellowes, in the sphere of education.

Several contributors to the country’s cultural development were also honoured. Among them Calypsonian Austin Lyons “Superblue” who received the Humming Bird Medal Gold, along with Musician Composer/Arranger Michael Boothman.

The Hummingbird Medal was bestowed posthumously on Rapso pioneer Lutalo Masimba, also known as ‘Brother Resistance.’ Calysponians Brother Mudada, Delamo, Johnny King and King Luta also received the Hummingbird Medal Silver.

Meanwhile Darryl Phillips received the Humming Bird Silver Medal on behalf of his uncle Lincoln Phillips awarded for his contribution to sport.

The widow of Stephen Marcano received the posthumous Humming Bird Medal Bronze for his gallantry. Mr. Marcano died while trying to save relatives who got into difficulties while bathing at Mayaro.

Among the women receiving National Awards for 2021 was Reverend Joy Abdul Mohan who received the Medal for the Development of Women, Gold. The Reverend is moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad and Tobago and has been championing women’s issues.
