Air quality levels around Port of Spain have improved slightly from ‘unhealthy’ to ‘moderate.’
The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) Assistant Manager of Technical Services, Jiselle Joseph, said while this is so, sensitive persons with respiratory issues should still exercise caution.
The update by the EMA follows a fire on April 5th at the Beetham Landfill which was the main contributing factor for unhealthy air quality. Ms. Joseph said its important for individuals to know what the number range represents, as it relates to determining the air quality level. For example, she added that 51 to 100 indicates a moderate air quality level, while 101 to 150 represents an unhealthy air quality level.
