Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley attended a CARICOM Special Emergency Heads of Government Meeting this morning.
In a post to the Office of the Prime Minister’s Facebook page on Monday, it said the virtual meeting will focus on the management of COVID-19 in the region.
Dr. Rowley, who chaired CARICOM from January to June 2021, would’ve also called a Special CARICOM Meeting early in his tenure to address COVID-19 concerns, including the availability of vaccines for smaller countries.
In February, he also called on the World Health Organization to continue the discussion on the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, while speaking during a WHO Virtual Media Briefing.
Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, who took over the mantle from Dr. Rowley earlier this year, chaired the virtual meeting on Monday.
Minister of Foreign and Caricom Affairs in Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Amery Browne, was also expected to attend the meeting.
