WASA CEO Suspended

The Water and Sewerage Authority has confirmed the suspension of its acting Chief Executive Officer, Sherland Sheppard.

In a media release, WASA advises that following an investigation, it was determined that Mr. Sheppard failed to ensure that a decision of the Board was fully complied with by the Authority. WASA says given the seriousness of this matter, a decision was taken to suspend Mr. Sheppard for a period of one month. During this time, Mr. Kelvin Romain has been appointed as the Acting CEO.

News of Mr. Sheppard’s suspension broke two weeks ago in a newspaper article. In the Senate last week, Public Utilities Minister, Marvin Gonzales said the matter was under active investigation by the WASA Board.

Mr. Sheppard, the former Acting Director of Operations, was appointed in 2021 to act as Chief Executive Officer following the resignation of former Executive Director Dr. Lennox Sealy.
