Minister Young Meets With Ambassador Of The European Union


Minister of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart R. Young, along with Permanent Secretary (Ag.), Sandra Fraser and Senior Energy Analyst (Ag.), Renewable Energy, Craig Boodoo, met with His Excellency Peter Cavendish, Ambassador of the European Union (EU), Sanjin Soldatić, Political Officer, and Zé Alves-Pereira, Programme Manager, at the Ministry of Energy and Energy Industries, International Waterfront Complex Head-Office, today, Friday 20 May, 2022.

His Excellency Cavendish updated Minister Young on EU projects and the numerous options for technical assistance in the energy sector, in addition to the possibilities of a roadmap for wind power generation. Following discussions led by Minister Young, the Honourable Minister highlighted the importance of energy security and he said that one possibility is exploring the use of power storage as well as further initiatives for solar energy generation. EU Programme Manager, Zé Alves-Pereira included future EU funding and grant opportunities such as EuroClima Caribbean and the Latin American Challenge Investment Fund. Considerations were also given to other options for energy generation including large-scale investment projects in renewable energy.

Minister Young emphasized his areas of focus which included carbon capture sequestration and utilization, hydrogen energy, methane reduction and electric vehicle charging; and thanked His Excellency Cavendish and the EU team for their ambitious activities in support of the advancement of Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector.
