One of the main forms of abuse at Residential Geriatric Homes is forceful restraint, but one Health Care Consultant says training of care providers can help to prevent such occurrences from taking place.
Health Care Consultant Donna Jackson, whose business is based in the UK, shared the types of abuse that those of the geriatric community may endure at some of these care homes.
In most cases, Ms. Jackson said care providers do not have the right resources or support to deal with individual clients.
She said restraints, in particular, which is one of the most popular forms of geriatric abuse, may harm an individual.
Ms. Jackson added that homes must ensure that, at the very least, the minimum legal standards set by the homes are embedded within the organisation.
