Daily rated workers under the Unemployment Relief Programme (URP) in Tobago will benefit from an increase in wages, the introduction of leave entitlement, and changes to some job titles, effective July 14th 2022.
According to the THA’s Assistant Secretary for Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development with responsibility for the URP, Joel Sampson, this is a positive step in the lives of workers and for the efficiency of the programme.
Changes include Foreman will be changed to Light Equipment Operator, with a wage change from $106 to $156 per day while Drivers and Tradesmen’s titles will remain the same with wages increased to $220 and $216 per day respectively.
The Assistant Secretary also outlined the approved leave entitlements for workers.
Assistant Secretary Sampson stated that this new policy information will be disseminated to workers before the enactment date.
