Contractors hired by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) are being blamed for the inefficiencies at the Commission by the Oilfield Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU).
During a protest led by the union outside of the Head Office of the Ministry of Public Utilities, OWTU Executive Vice President Reesa Ramlogan-Jodha said the contractors are taking away jobs from skilled, qualified workers.
OWTU President General Ancel Roget said the contractor responsible for tree cutting is still being paid by the utility company. He linked the February 2022 nationwide blackout to the contractor, calling the work inefficient.
The OWTU is calling for the suspension of the contractor pending an investigation.
