Multi-Sectoral Approach To Tackle School Violence

Superintendent of Police in charge of the TTPS Community Oriented Policing Section, Subhas Ramkhelawan, is promising to roll out its School Violence Intervention Visits in all ten policing districts by September.

On Tuesday, the Division visited seven schools in Central Trinidad with the aim of using a multi-sectoral approach to engaging students as a way to reduce incidents of school violence.

He says the schools visits would be expanded to other Divisions soon and will get children involved in programmes such as the Police Youth Club, Futsal Tournaments, the Military Led Academic Training Programme and engage with children and parents to help resolve issues at the home.

Meanwhile, President of the Single Fathers Association, Rhondall Feeles, who was also a part of the programme, believes this holistic intervention will make a difference to assist students in seeing a way forward.
