Nicholas Paul won this country’s third Gold medal and his second at the UCI Nations Cup in Colombia.
Paul, who was out of action for the second leg of the series in Canada due to a broken collarbone, showed no ill-effects as he defeated the current World, European and Olympic champion Harrie Lavreysen of the Netherlands in two straight rides to clinch the sprint title in Cali. Taking the Bronze was another Dutchman Jeffrey Hoogland who defeated local favourite Fontalvo Ortega in straight rides.
This follows Paul’s triumph in the Keirin on Saturday night and Akil Campbell’s Gold medal performance in the Men’s Elimination Race on Friday.
