Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly believes the launch of UNICEF’s U–Report in Trinidad and Tobago could not have come at a better time and policy makers are preparing for the new academic year.
The platform allows young people to voice their opinions on issues affecting their lives, through anonymous cell phone and social media messaging polls.
Dr. Gadsby-Dolly notes that such a tool allows Government to have a better understanding on the issues affecting young people. She says they can even voice their opinions on national issues such as education, health, gender equality and environmental issues.
Meanwhile, Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, says the U-Report will allow both UNICEF and Government to ensure young people can contribute to enhancing their own lives.
The U–Report platform expects to engage over 450,000 young people between 12 and 29 years old in Trinidad and Tobago, which represents 34% of the population.
