Josephine Shaw House For Women Officially Opens

The Josephine Shaw House for Women was officially opened on Tuesday. The House offers a new safe haven for female beneficiaries, 18-25 years, who will transition from Community Residences.

The Josephine Shaw House, located at the corner of Oxford and Henry Streets, Port of Spain, is a collaboration with the Salvation Army and the Ministry of Youth Development and National Service.

Line Minister Foster Cummings told the young women who will become beneficiaries of the facility that his Ministry will ensure that they acquire the necessary skills to become co-creators of Trinidad and Tobago’s sustainable future.

Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Gender and Child Affairs, Ayanna Webster-Roy, described the Josephine Shaw House as a symbol of hope and new beginnings for vulnerable women and girls in Trinidad and Tobago.

The event on Tuesday was cut short after persistent rainfall caused the collapse of the tent where the main speakers and audience were gathered.
