The Solid Waste Management Company Limited (SWMCOL) has re-launched its ‘Chase Charlie Away’ anti-littering campaign which had a major impact in encouraging better waste disposal practices in the 1980s.
SWMCOL said the recent inclement weather has made citizens more aware of the effects of flooding and believes it is an opportune time to encourage people not to litter.
The character ‘Charlie’ is the ultimate litterbug and resident of illegal dumping grounds who deplores clean and beautiful spaces, and persons found littering were likened to Charlie.
SWMCOL CEO Kevin Thompson said the company saw it fit to re-engage the character as a reminder to take care of the environment.
Mr. Thompson said he is also looking forward to continuing discussions in contributing to the Beverage Bill Policy.
The Chase Charlie Caravan will be moving to all 14 municipalities and Tobago to sensitise the public about littering in a more personal way.
