Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is urging journalists to conduct the necessary fact checks before disseminating information.
Delivering the keynote address during the 53rd Annual General Assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union on Monday, Dr. Rowley said during his forty years in electoral politics, he has observed the media.
He lamented the type of responsible journalism is not being widely practiced, adding the media should consider the content and structure. Dr. Rowley also noted there must be context and background history.
Prime Minister Rowley also called out radio stations whose schedules are filled with American pop or Gangsta music as opposed to West Indian music art and drama. He commended UNESCO and the CBU for their efforts to address the dangers of misinformation.
