‘Early Warning, Early Actions’ is the theme for this year’s International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction commemorated on October 13th annually.
As such, team members from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) hosted a community information booth in the vicinity of the Mayaro market on Thursday.
According to Planning and Development Officer of the ODPM, Anwar Baksh, the day was established by the United Nations General Assembly to promote a global culture of disaster risk reduction with this year’s theme focusing on building effective early warning systems.
Mr. Baksh noted the importance of engaging and educating the community in these areas since indigenous knowledge helps when devising plans to assist the community at large.
