Six hundred lower extremity amputations were recorded in Trinidad and Tobago last year.
Lower Extremity Amputation, which affects the limbs below the hip including the legs, feet and toes, is most common in diabetics.
Chief Executive Officer of Realm Labs LLC, Dr. Richard Mann, said diabetics are at great risk for amputations since they get wounds on their feet and legs that are difficult to heal. Dr. Mann said persons within the Caribbean region are also at greater risk for lower extremity amputations.
