Third place met last place in the IPL today with the Royal Challengers Bangalore facing Sunrisers Hyderabad in Abu Dhabi.
With just one more game to go in the League stage following this one, Jason Holder and Sunrisers are out of playoff contention.
Batting first, Sunrisers got to 141 for 7 of their 20 overs. Jason Roy top scored with 44 off 38 balls, captain Kane Williamson supported with 31 and West Indian Jason Holder finished with 16 off 13 balls.
Dan Christian picked 2 for 14 and Harshal Patel 3 for 33.
Requiring 142 for victory, RCB lost 3 early wickets for just 38 runs including the big wicket of captain Virat Kohli in the first over.
However, Devdutt Padikal and Glen Maxwell showed resistance in the second half off their innings with Padikal playing an anchor role while Maxwell went for the big hits, smashing 40 off 25 balls but even that was not enough as RCB went down to the cellar placed Sunrisers in the final over, giving them victory by 4 runs.
Five bowlers were used all sharing the 6 wickets to go down with Umran Malik 1 for 21, Siddharth Kaul 1 for 24 ,and Jason Holder 1 for 27 the best of the lot.
