Australia today completed a 164-run victory over the West Indies in the First Test at Perth.
Needing an extraordinary batting performance to save the match, the West Indies resumed on the 5th and final on 193 for three with Captain Kraigg Brathwaite not out on 101. They progressed to 207 when they lost Kyle Mayers for 10 as he became Nathan Lyon’s 4th wicket of the innings. Five runs later, Brathwaite’s resistance was broken as Lyon continued his demolition of the West Indies batting to leave the tourists hope of victory all but over. But Roston Chase’s 55, and 43 from pacer Alzari Joseph offered some lower order fight but in the end it was not enough as the West Indies were bowled out for 333 handing the Australians a 164-run victory.
Nathan Lyon was the best of the home team bowlers, leading them to victory with six wickets for 128 runs.
The Second and Final Test of the series starts on Thursday in Adelaide.
