In a semi final worth every dime, the home team South Africa women won a nail biting match against England Women to book their place in Sunday’s final, ICC women’s T20 world cup.
A South African opening partnership of 96 saw Laura Wolvaardt smash 53 from 44 balls while Tazmin Brits registered 6 fours and 2 sixes on her way to a top score of 68. This was the bulk of the scoring as the home side tallied a fighting 164 for 4 from their 20 overs. Sophie Ecclestone bagged three wickets for 22 runs for the English Ladies.
The three lions were off the blocks in a jiffy, scoring at ten runs per over thanks to Sophia Dunkley’s quick fire 28 and Danni Wyatt’s 34. However, Ayabonga Khaka made inrodes of four wickets that put the proteas back in the hunt. Nat Sciver-Brunt topped scored with 40, but that to was not enough as the home team held their nerve and clinched victory by six runs. On Thursday, Australia defeated favourites India by another close margin of five runs, with credit given to Ashleigh Gardner for her all round performance.
