Foreign Affairs Minister Clears The Air On Brussels Account

Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Amery Browne is confident that the Trinidad and Tobago Embassy in Brussels will secure a new account at a different bank in that city, as he sought to clear the air on issues surrounding the closure of the Embassy’s bank account.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley denied claims that the move to close the embassy’s bank account in Brussels, Belgium was a result of the EU’s tax blacklist, but was part of anti-money laundering measures.

Dr. Browne said following questions from the Opposition in Parliament on Friday, there could have been some misunderstanding of the issue. He maintained that the banking issue is only confined to the city of Brussels, which is also affecting several other embassies, especially those from developing countries.
