A family of twelve is now homeless following a fire at an apartment building located at Jack Street in Marabella on Sunday night.
Initial reports indicate that the fire started in the upstairs apartment where a father and son resided.
TTT News understands that three children were at home on Sunday watching television when just after 9pm they alerted their mother, who was taking a shower at the time, of the fire. The mother ran out of the bathroom and soon vacated the premises with her children and husband.
The victim’s mother, who lives next door with four other occupants, was also alerted to the fire and vacated the premises. The two men who lived in the apartment upstairs, where the fire is alleged to have started, also escaped.
There were no casualties reported, but the husband of one of the families is said to have suffered minor injuries as he attempted to return to the burning building to retrieve an item.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Neighbours along Jack Street have assisted the families with items and the community’s Regional Corporation distributed mattresses to those who have been displaced.
