TTPS: No Shots Fired At The Office Of The Attorney General

An extensive aerial and ground investigation was conducted earlier today at the Office of the Attorney General and Legal Affairs, located at Government Plaza, Richmond Street, Port of Spain, after police were alerted to reports of a shooting and an explosion incident.

A joint agency team which included the Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service (TTFS), and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), led by Senior Superintendent of Police (Ag.), Port-of-Spain Division, Terrance Nobbee, and included the Air Support Unit (ASU) and Canine Unit participated in the investigations.

The ASU deployed drones which aided in an aerial view of the area of suspected damage while the TTFS and Canine Unit conducted a sweep of the building and its immediate vicinity. The investigation has concluded that the crack observed in a sheet of glass of the building was a stress crack that was not as a result of gunshots.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mc Donald Jacob, who oversaw the police’s response to the incident, is urging anyone with information which can assist with the investigations to contact the police immediately.

Users of the Parkade and Government Plaza facilities who may have witnessed anything suspicious recently are encouraged to report those sightings to the police via its 999 hotline or via the TTPS’ App. The TTPS is currently working with security personnel at the building in this regard.

He encourages the public to rely on credible sources of information on issues affecting the national community. Citizens are reminded that, if they see something to say something. DCP Jacob also notes the undue panic caused today and again strongly urges the public to desist from sharing misinformation.
