The Ministry of Planning and Development, through its Environmental Policy and Planning Division, is playing a supporting role in hosting the Fifth Session of the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management for CARICOM States High-Level Forum.
This Forum will take place in Trinidad on March 23 and 24 and will feature regional Ministers responsible for the implementation of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.
Planning and Development Minister Pennelope Beckles will represent Trinidad and Tobago at the Forum, alongside government ministers from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and the Bahamas, with other representatives from Guyana, Suriname and St. Kitts and Nevis.
Soil management, land degradation, combating desertification, sustainable land use and overall protection and conservation of the region’s environmental resources will be some of the matters at the centre of the forum.
The High Level Forum supports the objectives of Trinidad and Tobago’s National Development Strategy, Vision 2030, under theme 5: ‘Placing the Environment at the Centre of Social and Economic Development’.
