JSC Tackles Noise Pollution

A suggestion to remove the responsibility of monitoring noise pollution complaints from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and instead institute a Noise Warden to issue tickets to perpetrators was given to the Environmental Management Authority (EMA) on Wednesday.

Joint Select Committee of Parliament Chairman, Dr. Varma Deyalsingh, made the comment during an inquiry into the operation of the EMA with specific focus on noise pollution.

Managing Director of the EMA, Hayden Romano, said the suggestion is possible, but it will require more human resources to become a reality. In his opening statement, Mr. Romano indicated that at the EMA, the number one complaint received is noise pollution , He said 913 noise complaints have been made in Trinidad and Tobago. Concerns about the noise levels by music trucks were also raised.
