Joshua Da Silva Hits Century In Headley Weekes Tri Series

The best players from the recently-concluded Cricket West Indies Regional Four Day Championship began their battle today in the Headley Weekes Tri Series.

The aim of the series is to add to the pool of players for test team selection. Team Headley batted first against the West Indies Academy, and got to 259 for 9. Joshua Da Silva entered under pressure and carried his bat to his highest first class score of 136 not out, striking 15 boundaries in his well played innings. Akeem Jordon was second best, scoring 54. Pacer Johan Layne bagged five wickets for 39 runs to be the pick of the bowlers.

The West Indies Academy then took to the crease and were on the back foot at zero for 2. But they rebuilt and at stumps on Day One, the Academy are 49 for two still trailing by 210 runs.

At the close of play, captain of Team Headley and centurion of the day, Joshua Da Silva, said batting under pressure was no different from international cricket.
