One too many. The words of Chief Secretary Farley Augustine as he spoke on Tobago’s escalating crime situation.
Following the report of a 5th murder on the island on Wednesday, Mr. Augustine told TTT News, Tobago’s murder rate is unacceptable adding the Tobago House of Assembly has been taking up the slack in addressing national security matters while this falls under the remit of Central Government led by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
He reiterated his statement made in April that national security in Tobago has been abandoned by the government adding this spells disaster for the island. Mr. Augustine said they have had a Tobago Security Council going, THA funds have been utilized to purchase national security apparatus and community programs have been hosted but more work needs to be done on families.
He noted with the increase in Tobago’s murder toll, the THA will return to the drawing board and continue to use their resources to address the crime situation in Tobago.
