Dozens of followers of Jamaat-al-Muslimeen Yasin Abu Bakr breached the Public Health Regulations as the Iman was laid to rest on Friday afternoon according to Muslim rites.
According to the current Public Health Regulations, weddings and funerals are limited to 10 persons, while public gatherings are strictly prohibited. Social distancing guidelines were also not adhered to at the funeral service.
Abu Bakr died on Thursday night, just two days after his 80th birthday.
The leader of the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen, which attempted to overthrow the NAR government on July 27th, 1990, reportedly collapsed at his home at Long Circular Road in St. James.
Police reported that Bakr, a diabetic, was taken to the St. James Health Facility where he was declared dead.
