This is according to Minister of Rural Development and Local Government, Faris Al-Rawi. Delivering remarks at the launch of the Community Flood Early Warning Systems Project, Minister Al-Rawi explained that on Thursday, the ruling from the Privy Council will determine when plans will move forward.
Minister Al-Rawi mentioned that Public Procurement, Digitisation, spending transformation, and the connection of resources form part of the reform to Local Government.
UNC activist Ravi Balgobin Maharaj, has challenged the extension of the term of local government officials and the postponement of elections, following the proclamation of sections of The Miscellaneous Provisions (Local Government Reform) Act, 2022.
The legal action went to the Privy Council after it was struck down by the High Court and Appeal Court in Trinidad and Tobago.
