CONCACAF’s Appeals Committee has upheld its decision to demote Nicaragua after considering an appeal submitted by the Nicaraguan Football Federation.
Nicaragua was sanctioned by the Confederation’s Disciplinary Committee fielding an ineligible player in eight Nicaragua Men’s National Team matches, including matches in the 2022/23 CONCACAF Nations League.
Considered a severe violation of the applicable FIFA/CONCACAF regulations, Nicaragua were demoted from League A to B, and expelled from the 2023 Gold Cup.
In a statement the Appeals Committee said after due consideration of the evidence presented by the Nicaraguan Football Federation they supported the sanction imposed, effectively removing any chance Nicaragua had of qualifying for the 2024 Copa America.
