The West Indies men took to the field against India at Windsor Park in Dominica with a desire of bringing back hope to the Windies fans. However, it was less than great.
The Windies won the toss and decided to bat in the First Test and lost both openers with the score on 38. The wickets continued to tumble, but it was the debutante Alick Athanaze that resisted the Indian bowlers. He faced 99 balls for his top score of 47 before being dismissed.
Kraigg Brathwaite was second best with 20 and Rahkeem Cornwall finished on 19 not out. The West Indies, all out for 150 on the final session of the first day. Spinner Ravi Ashwin took top flight for India with 5 wickets for 60 runs.
India then made batting look easy. Debutante Yashavi Jaiswal stroked 6 fours on his way to 40 not out while captain Rohit Sharma finished they day on 30 not out. Five of the West Indian bowlers were unable to break the unbeaten partnership with India closing the day in a commanding position at 80 without loss, trailing by 70 runs.
