High Court Sets Aside Judgement In $20M Compensation For Nine Men Freed Of Naipaul-Coolman Murder

The High Court has set aside judgement in the matter which led to an award of damages in the sum of $20 million to nine men who were freed of the murder of businesswoman Vindra Naipaul-Coolman.

A media release from the Attorney General’s Office says in her decision Justice Joan Charles found that the proceedings had not been properly served on the Attorney General.

In January 2023, the High Court ordered the $20 million compensation for the nine accused.

The Office of the Attorney General entered an appearance in the case but failed to defend it.

Soon after the ruling, AG Reginald Armour announced that the reason the State did not mount a defence was due to the fact that the case file went missing. The AG launched a probe into the matter and it was revealed that the file had been returned to the Solicitor General’s Office.
