The National Security Council will review certain key aspects of operations of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
The Council, chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley, indicates the decision comes as a result of the recent shooting incident at Courts MegaStore in which an off duty Special Reserve Police officer opened fire, killing two persons and wounding three others.
A statement from the NSC says notwithstanding the investigation into the facts and circumstances of the incident, the Council will initiate a comprehensive review surrounding the relevant laws, regulations, and practices of the TTPS.
The Council adds that it has the full cooperation of the Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher on behalf of the TTPS.
An extra ordinary meeting of the NSC was held on Monday December 18th.
The Commissioner of Police, the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Vice Marshall Darryl Daniel, and the Director of the Security Services Agency also sit on the NSC.
