T20 star Nicholas Pooran was the only West Indian in an Indian dominated ICC Men’s T20 team for 2023.
A consistent performer with the bat, Pooran only failed to reach double figures three times in 13 innings, making 384 runs at a strike rate approaching 163.
Pooran’s 41 from just 19 balls against South Africa in Johannesburg, kickstarted a West Indies innings of 220/8, an important knock in a seven-run win. Back-to-back knocks of 41 and 67 against India followed, ending the five-match T20I series with a score of 47 in the final match.
Pooran ended the year with the home series against England, making 82 and 39 in matches four and five of the series, won by the Men in Maroon.
He stands as the wicketkeeper for the team with Suryakumar Yadav as captain. Ugandan all-rounder Alpesh Ramjani stormed into the team along with Zimbabwe stalwart, Sikandar Raza and fellow teammate Richard Ngarava.
